Cancer is increasingly impacting healthcare systems in Europe. Over the past two decades, the number of people diagnosed with cancer has increased by approximately 50%. Today, cancer is the cause of one in four deaths in Europe, making it the second most common cause of death and disability, just after cardiovascular diseases. With the aging and growing population in Europe, this trend is likely to continue. According to projections, the number of cancer cases will increase by an additional 775,000 by 2040 .
